Sconset

From Sankaty Head Lighthouse to the charm of Sconset village, iconic Nantucket lives here.

If any part of the island has retained a singular presence for decades, Sconset is it. With graceful summer homes fronting its grass-lined Main Street, inviting rose-covered cottages huddled along winding lanes, and timeless "stick-style" houses tucked behind manicured privet hedges.

During the Daffodil Day picnic in April, when over one hundred classic cars park in the village to celebrate spring, the scene is truly iconic. Some residents never leave the village in summer, and there's truly no need: 'Sconset has its own market, caterer, several high caliber restaurants, and post office (with its own zip code). Three of the island's golf courses are here, including the magnificent Sankaty Head Golf Club, with the namesake lighthouse looming large over the links. The historic Sconset Casino, home of clay-court tennis, began staging theatrical productions in 1900, when Sconset was in full swing as an actors' colony.

Location: Sconset, also known as Siasconset, is located on the easternmost part of Nantucket. It sits along the Atlantic coast and is approximately 7-8 miles from downtown Nantucket.

Things to Do in Sconset

Sankaty Head Lighthouse: Located just a short distance from the village, this iconic lighthouse is one of the most photographed spots on Nantucket. The lighthouse offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline and is a popular spot for watching the sunrise.

Sconset Beach: The beach at Sconset is quieter than many of Nantucket’s other beaches, making it a great place to relax. With soft sand and views of the ocean, it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or walking along the shore.

Golf at Sankaty Head Golf Club: For golf enthusiasts, the Sankaty Head Golf Club is nearby. It’s one of the island’s premier private golf courses, known for its coastal views and challenging course.

Explore Sconset Village: The village itself is a lovely area to explore, with its narrow streets, rose-covered cottages, and local shops. It’s a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or bike ride. Roundabout Circle, Sconset Market, and the Foot Bridge are three iconic landmarks in Sconset that give the village its charm.

Roundabout Circle refers to the circular intersection at the heart of Sconset, where several small streets in the village converge. The circle is surrounded by several key spots, such as Sconset Market and the Post Office.

Sconset Market is a quintessential Nantucket establishment, famous for its fresh-made sandwiches, ice cream, snacks, and general provisions. It’s the perfect spot to grab a treat before heading to the beach or on a scenic walk.

Bike the Polpis Path: The bike path along Polpis Road connects Sconset to other parts of Nantucket, offering scenic routes through the moors and countryside, making it ideal for a relaxing bike ride.

From Our Agents

“I love Sconset for the quaintness of the rose-covered homes and Codfish Park. I also enjoy: the spectacular sunrises, Sankaty Lighthouse, the Sconset Market, and the Turkey Salad sandwich with the works from Claudettes."

William Raveis

“I love Sconset because of the small, laidback, quiet village feel -- the rose-covered cottages, the Sconset market for an ice cream, Claudettes for a sandwich, or an amazing meal in the garden of the Chanticleer.”
